Step back roughly 450 years into the heart of the Inca Empire without leaving Melbourne. This virtual reality experience lets you climb the Andes, walk the famous agricultural terraces, and explore the Temple of the Sun at Machu Picchu. The recreation was built over five years using drone, LiDAR and photogrammetry captures, with input from Inca historians.

A robot guide called TERI leads the way through the temples and mountain vistas, and you can wander at your own pace. The headset session runs about 40 minutes, so allow roughly an hour in total, and arrive 15 minutes early to sign the waiver and collect your gear.

Suited to families, history buffs and curious explorers, with tickets from $46.50.
