About this event

The Merewether Fats' Blues Jam has been running on the first Thursday of every month for over a decade, built by Mark 'Merewether Fats' Salter into a proper hub for Newcastle's music community. Young, old and everyone in between show up, from seasoned players to people just there for the music.

The rule is strictly blues, and Fats was particular about it: the music has to come from the soul of the player. The night opens around 7:30pm with a short set from the house band to set the tone, then the floor opens up to anyone wanting to play, usually about three songs a turn. Expect acoustic and delta styles, Chicago shuffles, Detroit boogies and Bo Diddley rhythms, getting deeper as the night goes on.

Play solo, as a duo or with a full band. Borrow the house band or pick up players on the night, since there's usually plenty of talent around. Singers and harmonica players are welcome too.
