Naarm’s underground circuit lines up a textured and noisy bill at Shotkickers, bringing together four bands operating at the fringes of rock’s more experimental edges.Headlining are Big Black Maria, an experimental/post-rock outfit building slow-burning intensity through layered guitars, synth, and rhythm section interplay. Drawing from the weight and repetition of Swans, the stark minimalism of Joy Division, and the expansive dynamics of Mogwai, their sound shifts between droning heaviness, melodic restraint, and groove-driven passages.Supporting them, Snailgun brandish a searing and relentless blend of post-punk and noise rock. Cutting through their noisy-yet-melodic forays, are tense vocals and poignant lyrics that will worm away in your ears.San push into dense shoegaze territory, blending walls of noise with textural, almost industrial undercurrents. Their set leans into atmosphere and immersion, sitting somewhere between heavy shoegaze and experimental rock.Opening the night
