About this event

Arraiá do Baque brings a slice of Brazil's Northeast to the Evelyn in Fitzroy, mixing the festa junina tradition with the heavy pulse of maracatu.

Live percussion comes from Maracatu Baque Voador, with Lamparina Forró Jazz running forró rhythms through a jazz filter. Between sets there's hands-on stuff: workshops in maracatu, capoeira angola and forró dance, pitched at all levels.

Traditional Brazilian food and drink round out the night. Twenty bucks gets you in.
