It was written by Sivan, Inscore, McLaughlin ,Hughes and Gaynor, and was produced by Inscore. In a track by track review with EMI, Troye explained the origins of the song "for him. is a song I only recently decided was going to make the album because it was a gift I was writing for someone and it’s very, very specific. The lyrics are completely between him and I. I played it for him and we had a really sweet moment. But I ended up listening to it over and over and over again and I started thinking, ‘Maybe the whole world should hear it." It should be noted that “for him.” is the only lowercased title on the album – every other song’s title is written in all-caps. .
