About this song
- “Science of Fear“ by The Temper Trap is a metaphorical exploration of the power of fear in life. The lyrics are packed with imagery of a car moving downhill, desperately trying to slow down or else face eminent danger. This is a metaphor for the feeling of life being out of control and heading towards certain disaster. The pre-chorus and chorus lyrics emphasize the idea of being stuck in fear and not being able to move, as well as the understanding of fear as a science and how it can plague the mind and paralyze us. The bridge and final chorus emphasize the idea of feeling hopelessly stuck, unable to break through or move forward. Ultimately, the song is a thoughtful look at how fear can be an obstacle on the road to progress and how it can keep us from living our lives to the fullest. .
