Evie (Parts 1, 2 & 3)

by Stevie Wright

2026 · Rock · 11:08

About this song

  • It has been suggested that there is only one way to listen to Evie and that is by listening to the full three part version together. Composed by former members of The Easybeats, Harry Vanda and George Young and written especially for their former ex band mate, who had found life difficult post The Easybeats breaking up. The song was released in April 1974, with the three parts on both sides on the 45' Single. It was not long before the three parts were being played together and eventually reached the #2 position on the national chart, while the accompanying album Hard Road reached #5 nationally and featured not only the 11 minute Evie but also the autobiographical and title track Hard Road, which was later covered by Rod Stewart. After the release of his follow up album, Black Eyed Bruiser, Wright went on tour and at the peak of his 1974 success he performed three successful concerts on the steps of the Sydney Opera House with ex Easybeats band mates Harry Vanda, George Young and Young's brother, the late Malcolm Young Stevie Wright returned to the steps of the Sydney Opera House five years later and took part in " The Concert of The Decade" but this time in front of 100,000 people. Evie, Parts 1,2 & 3 is generally considered an Australian rock classic, A song of epic proportions, but one that told life's love story, A classic tale of getting the girl, loving the girl and losing her. A song with it's powerful drive of Part 1, was destined to be a massive radio hit, even similar to Friday On My Mind or Good Times Stevie Wright died in 2015 of Pneumonia. .
