About this song
- "Shakes" by Luke Hemmings is an ethereal dream-pop track featuring reverberating vocals that evoke a sense of nostalgia. The singer reveals that the song draws inspiration from feelings of loneliness in his late 20s, leading him to explore the works of artists like Damon Albarn and other introspective songwriters. Hemmings shares that the song was written in New York, where he immersed himself in the music of LCD Soundsystem, Cocteau Twins, and The Verve, capturing a mood of melancholy and solitude within a bustling city atmosphere. The solo nature of his work on this track contrasts with his collaborative efforts in 5 Seconds of Summer, forcing him to rely solely on his own creative process. This shift has influenced his songwriting style, as evidenced by the diverse influences found in this recent single. .
