About this song
- "Stay (I Missed You)" is a song by singer-songwriter, author & actress Lisa Loeb. It was released on or before April 1994 as the lead single from the soundtrack to Reality Bites (1994). The song was written by Loeb and produced by Juan Patiño. Created as early as 1990, at one point with the intent of handing it to Daryl Hall. After deciding to use the song herself, Loeb's neighbor and friend, actor Ethan Hawke, heard the song and submitted it to Ben Stiller for use in the 1994 film, Reality Bites. The song plays over the film's closing credits. The song deals with a relationship that has recently ended, but the narrator is now regretful. Stay (I Missed You) went on to peak at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks beginning in August 1994, granting Lisa with the very rare distinction of being the first artist ever to top the Hot 100 before signing to a major record label. .
