Low High

by Ella Hooper

2026 · Rock

About this song

  • Low High is the first single taken from Ella Hooper's debut solo album, 'In Tongues.' Produced & recorded by Jan Skubizewski (Owl Eyes, Illy, Way Of The Eagle) chiefly in his Smith St Collingwood studio, the track features guest performances by horror-country act Graveyard Train. Low High is a rhythmic call and answer affair, that marks the first solo effort from Ella who's previous credits include lead vocals in iconic Australian pop punk band Killing Heidi and alt-country act The Verses. 'In Tongues' is another musical departure for Hooper, revealing a deeper, softer vocal style set to songs about loss of control, inner desires and Saturn returning. In production since December 2011 the work has been a chance to collaborate and create a new sound with close friends such as Skubizewski, the Graveyard Train boys (long time friends and neighbors Ella has previously lent vocals to two of their releases) as well as ex Children Collide drummer and Pearls front man Ryan Caesar. The single's austere yet playful clip, shot in black and white in a remote pine forrest by photographer Wilk, (who has shot album covers and clips for PVT, Jack Ladder, Bertie Blackman, Dappled Cities, Seeker Lover Keeper) nods to film noir, slight of hand and horror movies of old. .
