About this song
- “J'OUVERT” is the tenth track on iridescence. The song premiered alongside a music video that follows the thermal aesthetic of the album. The song was the first and only single promoting the album. It was announced via the band’s Twitter just prior to the album’s release. This serves as the first official music video of the cancelled “The Best Years Of Our Lives” trilogy. The title itself is a reference to an annual street carnival that is celebrated by many Caribbean cultures. One of the group’s producers, Jabari Manwa, is from the island of Grenada, and this title is a reference to his Caribbean roots. While it technically can translate to “I opened”, the band is probably using the term in reference to the Caribbean holiday J'Ouvert, an annual street carnival tradition of festivities. In said sense, the word “J'ouvert” originates from the French term “Ouvert”, meaning “day break” or “morning.” The song samples Lavaman’s “Doh Blame Meh”. .
