Live music in Byron Bay

This beachside pocket of the far north coast has become synonymous with live music, thanks to decades of touring acts discovering an audience hungry for everything from folk to electronic. The legendary status got earned the hard way—through committed venues, passionate locals, and a creative culture that treats live music like oxygen. You'll find everything from intimate cafe gigs to larger festival-style events scattered across town and the surrounds, with a particular strength in indie, reggae, and world music.

The vibe here is genuinely unpretentious. A night out might mean catching a touring artist at a heritage pub, a local bedroom producer at a beachfront bar, or stumbling into an impromptu jam session that shouldn't work but somehow does. The town's population might be small, but the musical pull extends far beyond, drawing serious music lovers from across the region.
